Kashmiri Chilli Powder

Our Kashmiri Chilli Powder gets its name from Kashmir, a beautiful part of the world and brings a bit of the exotic back to your kitchen.
Known for its vibrant red colour, mild spice levels and depth of flavour, this Kashmiri chilli powder adds oomph to tandoori dishes, kormas and everyone’s favourite, Lamb Rogan Josh.
Several poets, authors and philosophers have tried to describe the stunning beauty of Kashmir and yet, no one has been able to say it better and simpler than the Mughal emperor Jahangir - “If there is heaven on earth, it’s here.”
As the chillies in this powder don’t actually come from Kashmir, we suspect it’s named after the Kashmiri people and their love of chilli. For Kashmiris, food without chillies is meant for the sick and unwell. They believe that the benefits of the spice include strengthening the digestive tract, promoting a healthy heart and improving metabolism.
They take pride in the various chilli varieties available in the Kashmiri markets and for any spice lover, a visit to the famous Gaad-e-Kocheh, in downtown Srinagar is a must. Tucked amongst rows and rows of shops you’ll find a small shop that’s a Pandora’s box of chilli.
Just ask anyone for the ‘Mirchi Kings’ and you can’t go wrong.
Strikingly coloured, distinctly flavoured and bringing the heat, Kashmiri Chilli Powder is the red, hot spice you need to make your tongue dance. Sent from the deities, this vibrant and popular spice is an essential ingredient of Indian cuisine.
